Meraj E Ghazal
Asha Bhosle and Ghulam Ali

Important words:

In her amazingly versatile career Asha Bhosle, has dabbled with ghazal singing as well. She is not a regular Ghazal singer, but as with everything that she does, her Ghazals are really a treat. Her album with Ghulam Ali, ‘Meraj e Ghazal’ was a huge success but she essentially remains a singer of very popular Bollywood film songs.

This ghazal, “Dard Jab Tere Ata Hai”, is very simple in thought and has been worded with not very difficult words, which is its intrinsic beauty. Somehow it touches the heart with the narration of the the plight of the singer which could be the lover or the loved one. Manzoor Ahmar, the writer of this Ghazal was born on 12th January 1931 and expired in 2008.

Some of his more popular shers :

As, you are the one to gift pain, cause me sorrow,

To whom can I complain?

When you are the one to decree separation, isolation,

Whom can I Meet?

Your reflection has broken with the shattering of the mirror!

My eyesight has been damaged, how do I choose which reflection?

I am travelling in life, with you separated, as my fate!

When pain is the companion, whom do I separate from whom?

The flowers have bloomed

or may be your hennaed hands have opened!

You are everywhere, in every direction,

whom do I ask for your address?

Your lips, your eyes, your cheeks and lovely locks are so alive!

How can I prevent my heart from the fascination of all these?

Ghulam Ali has sung this ghazal in his trademark soulful style. Does he need any introduction?

Hope you all enjoyed this ghazal. Wishing all of you a very pleasant weekend!
