POST 31: Ujra Aanae mein be hae aur bulatae bhe nahi
उज़्र आने में भी है और बुलाते भी नहीं
Nawab Mirza khan Daagh Dehlvi was a contemporary of Mirza Ghalib, Taki Meer Taki. He was born in 1831 and died in 1905. He was a great proponent of Urdu and wrote in simple and chaste Urdu, minimising use of Persian words. He was the grandson of Bahadur Shah Zafar. He was only six years old, when his father died. Gulzar e Daagh, Aftab e Daagh, Mahtad e Daagh and Yadgar e daagh are his four collections. Fariyad e daagh is his Masnavi, which is a poem written in rhyming couplets.

तखल्लुस दाग है और आशिकों के दिल में रहते हैं
गजब किया तेरे वादे पे ऐतबार किया
तमाम रात कयामत का इंतजार किया

बहार आई मेरे बाग में खिजां की तरह
सनम कदे के हुए हम न मयकदे के हुए
ये दाग दिल पे मुसलमान ले के जाएंगे
खुदा रख्खे मुहब्बत ने किए आबाद घर दोनों
मैं उनके दिल में रहता हूं वो मेरे दिल में रहते हैं

बाइस-ए-तर्क-ए-मुलाक़ात बताते भी नहीं
She has an objection and an apology for not coming,
although she does not also call me over.
She does not even tell the reason of discontinuing, our meeting each other
मुंतज़िर हैं दम-ए-रुख़्सत कि ये मर जाए तो जाएँ
फिर ये एहसान कि हम छोड़ के जाते भी नहीं
She postpones the moment of her departure ,waiting for me to die!
She thinks as though she bestows a favour by not leaving!!
सर उठाओ तो सही आँख मिलाओ तो सही
नश्शा-ए-मय भी नहीं नींद के माते भी नहीं
Pull up yourself, raise your head and look at me!
You are not under intoxication of wine or under the influence of sleep!!
क्या कहा फिर तो कहो हम नहीं सुनते तेरी
नहीं सुनते तो हम ऐसों को सुनाते भी नहीं
Did you say that you don’t listen to people like me?
If you don’t listen to people like me, even I don’t address the likes of you!!
ख़ूब पर्दा है कि चिलमन से लगे बैठे हैं
साफ़ छुपते भी नहीं सामने आते भी नहीं
It is a strange way of concealing herself !
She sits by the reed curtain, I feel her presence but I can not see her clearly !!
मुझ से लाग़र तिरी आँखों में खटकते तो रहे
तुझ से नाज़ुक मिरी नज़रों में समाते भी नहीं
People more frail than me, have been bothering you.
And I can’t stand people more delicate than you!
देखते ही मुझे महफ़िल में ये इरशाद हुआ
कौन बैठा है उसे लोग उठाते भी नहीं
Immediately on realising that I am present in her gathering,
She enquired as to who is there?
And commanded why people are not driving me away from her mehfil?
हो चुका क़त्अ तअ’ल्लुक़ तो जफ़ाएँ क्यूँ हों
जिन को मतलब नहीं रहता वो सताते भी नहीं
The relationship has been severed, discontinued,
So why continue with the tyranny of the beloved ,injustice?
Those who have no interest, don’t pester or harass ever.
ज़ीस्त से तंग हो ऐ 'दाग़' तो जीते क्यूँ हो
जान प्यारी भी नहीं जान से जाते भी नहीं
Dag ( the shayar),if you are troubled with life, very existence, why do you live?
You don’t seem to value life, nor do you give up life?
