सुना था के वो आयेंगे अंजुमन में
Qamar Jalalabadi was an Indian poet, who took the name Jalalabadi as he was born in Jalalabad, now in Pakistan, in 1917. His name was Om Prakash Bhandari. He was a prolific lyricist, very active in Indian film industry. To mention a few : Ek Pardesi Mera Dil Le Gaya…”, Dum Dum Diga Diga Mausam Bhiga Bhiga…”, “Mere Toote Hue Dil Se Koi To Aaj Ye Pooche…”, “Teri Raahon Mein Khade Hain…”, “Tu Hai Mera Prem Devta…”, “Aji Surat Ho To Aisi Ho…”, “Phir Tumhari Yaad Aayi Ae Sanam…
He died at the ripe old age of 86, in 2003.
He also composed the title music for serials like Vikram aur Betal.

सुना था के उनसे मुलाकात होगी
हमे क्या पता था, हमे क्या खबर थी,
ना ये बात होगी, ना वो बात होगी
I had heard that she would be coming to the gathering,
Had heard that I would be able to meet her!
I was not aware nor did I realise,
Neither would the visit happen nor would the meeting!
मैं कहता हूँ इस दिल को दिल में बसा लो,
वो कहते हैं हमसे, निगाहे मिला लो
निगाहों को मालूम क्या दिल की हालत,
निगाहों- निगाहों में क्या बात होगी
I want her to accept my devotion, my love in her heart,
She wants me to meet her eyes, her look
Eyes, looks don’t know the condition of the heart!
What conservation can happen just between eyes?
हमे खींचकर इश्क़ लाया हे तेरा,
तेरे दर पे हमने लगाया हे डेरा
हमे होगा जब-तक ना दीदार तेरा,
यहीं सुबह होगी, यहीं रात होगी
Your love has propelled me here forcefully,
Now I have camped in front of your house entrance,
Until I see you face to face , my days will only begin here and end here !
मुहब्बत का जब हमने छेड़ा फ़साना,
तो गोरे से मुखड़े पे आया पसीना
जो निकले थे घर से, तो क्या जानते थे,
के यूँ धूप में आज बरसात होगी
Once I narrated the episode of my love
Your beautiful face had developed the worry lines!
When coming out of the house, I just did not foresee,
That it would rain today, in broad sunlight!!
ख़फ़ा हमसे होके वो बैठे हुए हैं,
रक़ीबों में घिर के वो बैठे हुए हैं
ना वो देखते हैं,ना हम देखते हैं,
यहाँ बात होगी, तो क्या बात होगी
She is sitting, annoyed with me
She is sitting aloof surrounded by rivals!
Neither is she looking at me, nor am I looking at her
Even if we get to talk, what would we be able to achieve ?
This is such a lovely ghazal ,expressing the helplessness of the lover but some how, I have not been able to find this ghazal sung by any other artist of repute. Enjoy the ghazal and have a wonderful weekend!
