POST 34: ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL Woh Bahut Purguroor Rehta Hai
This 26th February was our 50th marriage anniversary and my daughter in law, Dipali (we call her Aali which means a friend- name given by Ansa), Son Prashant and grand daughter Prashali (Daughter of Prash and Aali) made sure that it was celebrated in style in these difficult days of Covid. 25th of Feb we celebrated Mehendi. My daughter Pallavi and Son in law Ashish had brought Mehendi ka khana as per Delhi tradition. Pallavi’s sons Apoorv and Akshit were with us through out. The whole house had been decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers as per directions of Aali.
26th morning after a sumptuous breakfast Mehendi was applied on hands of all ladies. Even I had a small design made on my left palm! My younger daughter Prerna, her husband Yogesh and children Yash and Vini were with us the whole time through internet! What marvels of technology! They had a mehendi ceremony and gala dinner at Johannesburg also! applying mehendi seems to be very popular in south Africa.Even during mehendi, we had a two hours long zoom meeting where my and Ansa’s brothers, bhabhies, sister, cousins and their children joined in. At one time there were nearly 30 people online! There was dancing, singing, shayari and lot of fun. Those in USA or Canada had recorded their messages, songs, dances and posted owing to time difference. We had participation from USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia ,Dubai and Hong-Kong .
The dinner on 26th evening was at Hotel Pullman in a beautifully decorated buffet.
Knowing Ansa’s fondness, we received so many bouquets that the house was full!! These were predominantly yellow- colour of my choice.
As a special treat for me Ansa has sung this ghazal, although she believes this is not her best effort, but it’s still the sweetest voice I have ever heard :-).
Hope you enjoy this ghazal.
This, I hope, also explains why the blog has been delayed.
This is a ghazal written by the famous poet Kaif . The concept is simple but words have been very effectively used.
IMPORTANT WORDS:
पुरग़ुरूर: full of pride, haughty; नूर: brightness, full of light, beauty; सुरूर: intoxication; दस्ते साकी: hand of the lady serving wine; मयकशी : habit of drinking wine; फ़ितूर:mild feeling of madness
She remains very hauty, very proud of herself!
She resides in my heart, but still remains aloof!!
Why would not her eyes be so bright and full of light?
After all her heart and persona is under intoxication!
The wine goblet remains in her hand
Still I feel that I am under intoxication!
When in love, whatever may remain or may not remain with you?
But definitely there is some madness in the mind
Kaif, is a teetotaller,
Still why does he feel intoxicated?
All the best. Enjoy.
