POST 37:Dille nadan tujhe hua kya hai?
दिल-ए-नादाँ तुझे हुआ क्या है ?
This is a very popular and excellent ghazal crafted by Mirza Ghalib. Ghalib needs no further introduction, as I have translated several of his ghazals and described various facets of his life. Suffice it to say that it is one of his better ghazals.
This ghazal, sung by Mehdi Hasan does full justice to this brilliant ghazal.

दिल-ए-नादाँ तुझे हुआ क्या है
आख़िर इस दर्द की दवा क्या है
Oh my innocent heart, what has happened to you?
After all what is the cure for this pain?
हम हैं मुश्ताक़ और वो बे-ज़ार
या इलाही ये माजरा क्या है
I am so keen, so desirous and she is so apathetic!
Oh God! what is happening? what is this condition?
मैं भी मुँह में ज़बान रखता हूँ
काश पूछो कि मुद्दआ' क्या है
Even I have the capacity to answer back!
Alas! At least ask me what is the issue!!
जब कि तुझ बिन नहीं कोई मौजूद
फिर ये हंगामा ऐ ख़ुदा क्या है
Since there is no one present besides you,
Oh God, why is this uproar, tumult?
ये परी-चेहरा लोग कैसे हैं
ग़म्ज़ा ओ इश्वा ओ अदा क्या है
How are these angle faced people?
What is this amorous, coquettish look and gesture?
शिकन-ए-ज़ुल्फ़-ए-अंबरीं क्यूँ है
निगह-ए-चश्म-ए-सुरमा सा क्या है
Why are curls in these black tresses?
Why is this look of kohl in your eyes?
सब्ज़ा ओ गुल कहाँ से आए हैं
अब्र क्या चीज़ है हवा क्या है
From where have this greenery, these flowers come?
What are clouds and what is the breeze?
हम को उन से वफ़ा की है उम्मीद
जो नहीं जानते वफ़ा क्या है
I am looking for faithfulness from her,
Although she knows not what is faithfulness!
हाँ भला कर तिरा भला होगा
और दरवेश की सदा क्या है
Be good to others and God will look after you!
What else is the prayer of the mendicant?
जान तुम पर निसार करता हूँ
मैं नहीं जानता दुआ क्या है
I am going to sacrifice my life for you ,
Although I do not know what is a prayer!
मैं ने माना कि कुछ नहीं 'ग़ालिब'
मुफ़्त हाथ आए तो बुरा क्या है
I agree there is no conquest Ghalib,
But if it comes without effort, where is the harm?
