This ghazal has been penned by Sheikh Ali Sikandar (1890–1960), whose pen name was Jigar. He added the name of his hometown, Moradabad a district town in western UP to make it Jigar Murabadi a name to reckon, in the world of ghazal shayari! He did not have any formal education but learnt Persian and some English at matriculation level. His father, Ali Nazar, gave him initial lessons in poetry and later was fortunate to get guidance from major poets like Daag Dahelvi and Asgar Gondavi.

Some of his better known shers incude:

Chitra Singh, wife of Jagjit Singh has sung this ghazal with rare sensitivity and makes one feel as though her personal pain is this ghazal about! As always Jagjit Singh is the music composer and director. The album was released way back in 1988.

Important words:

फ़ुग़ाँ:scream,howl,screech,shriek, wail: चींख पुकार ; नश्तर: scalpel; गराँ: costly, out of reach; लतीफ़-तरीन : pleasant, pure;

Pain in my heart may not increase to such an extent that it may turn into a shriek, a wail!

Let not the World turn topsy- turvy !This reality should not become an all encompassing phenomenon!!

It feels as though a scalpel is being twisted in my heart!

This unbearable pain, let it not become the language of my heart!!

( Unbearable pain of her indifference)

You wish to possess my heart, control my heart, please go ahead!

Let not this deal become too costly and out of your reach!!

With a sigh I would express my sorrow, my frustration but in a pleasant manner,

It should not become a litany, a boring recital on my lips!!
