POST 51: Dil Mein Ek Lahar Se Uthi Hai Abhi
This ghazal has been written by famous poet Nasir Kazmi ( Born 1925 at Ambala , Died 1972 Lahore). His given name was Hafiz Hassan Ali. He was in favour of using simple words like raat, barrish or mausam and still convey the beauty of the thought. He was associated with Radio Pakistan and was editor -in- chief of the magazine Humayun. He learnt the intricacies of poetry from Hafeez Hoshiyarpuri. He did quite a few translations from English to Urdu. His translation of Walt Whitman’s poem ‘ Crossing Brooklyn Ferry’ as ‘ Brooklyn ghaat ke par’ is considered a masterpiece.
Some of his better known shers:
Ghulam Ali is in his elements singing this ghazal.
Hear Anoop Jalota explaining how sound conveys feelings. What simplicity and what understanding of music!!
My heart has just now felt new ripples, stirrings!
There has been a quiet wave of hope, like a fresh breeze!!
I am also a very sensitive person temperamentally, with a delicate disposition!
And the hurt is very recent!!
There is lot of commotion ,a tumultuous roar, in the abode of my heart!
As though a wall has collapsed!
I am feeling out of sorts in this crowded world.
Don’t even know what is missing!
Even if you are not a partner in the dialogue, in poetry of life so what?
Your silence is my partner in this dialogue!
Your memory is like a traceless island ,silent and forlorn!
Although I can hear your presence!!
My life , ever hopeful, is still looking for you, in the dark lanes of the town.
All the people have gone off to sleep, leaving me abandoned ,
But a window of opportunity is still open.
Oh my friends, you have woken up so early!
The night is still young in the town.
Nasir, good days ,good fortune will come my way still!
Don’t loose heart, enough of life still remains!
