POST 56 : Phir Mujhe Deeda-e-Tar Yaad Aya
फिर मुझे दीदा-ए-तर याद आया
This is another ghazal from the bouquet of ghazals from Mirza Assaudin Ghalib, who has gifted us with ghazals that have all the flavours of romance, love, sorrow, piety abundance of pleasure and all that one can expect from a wizard!
This ghazal has a pride of place in the movie ‘ Mirza Ghalib’ which premired in 1954. This ghazal has been sung by Talat Mahmood.

Kundan Lal Saigal has a style of singing which dominated the music scene for decades even after his death. The present young generation does not seem to connect with him but the previous generations find him irresistible. It would give pleasure if heard with patience and understanding that vocal quality was important and accompanied music was secondary.
फिर मुझे दीदा-ए-तर याद आया
दिल जिगर तिश्ना-ए-फ़रयाद आया
I have once again remembered those eyes filled with tears!
I have also remembered that heart which thirsts for supplication!!
दम लिया था न क़यामत ने हनूज़
फिर तिरा वक़्त-ए-सफ़र याद आया
While with you, the conundrum had not even taken a breather,
When I remembered that already it was time for you to depart!
सादगी-हा-ए-तमन्ना या'नी
फिर वो नैरंग-ए-नज़र याद आया
The simplicity of desires was perplexing,
When I felt that may be this simplicity is a hallucination!
उज़्र-ए-वामांदगी ऐ हसरत-ए-दिल
नाला करता था जिगर याद आया
The desires of the heart had just taken an excuse of being tired and fatigued,
The wailing of the heart, my dear friend, I remembered !!
ज़िंदगी यूँ भी गुज़र ही जाती
क्यूँ तिरा राहगुज़र याद आया
The life anyway would have passed!
Why did I have to remember the path frequented by you?
क्या ही रिज़वाँ लड़ाई होगी
घर तिरा ख़ुल्द में गर याद आया
What a strange conflict would it be at the gates of heaven?
When I realised that your residence is in the heaven!
आह वो जुरअत-ए-फ़रियाद कहाँ
दिल से तंग आ के जिगर याद आया
Where is that audacity of appeal against injustice?
Sickened by my heart,I remembered my close friend ,my heart!
These shers do not appear in the ghazal presented in the film’ Mirza Ghalib’ although these are included in the ghazal.
फिर तिरे कूचे को जाता है ख़याल
दिल-ए-गुम-गश्ता मगर याद आया
Once again, my thoughts go to locality of yours!
Until I realised that I had lost my heart there!!
कोई वीरानी सी वीरानी है
दश्त को देख के घर याद आया
Oh this loneliness, this feeling of being alone!
Looking at this long long stretch of wilderness, I was reminded of home sweet home!!
मैं ने मजनूँ पे लड़कपन में 'असद'
संग उठाया था कि सर याद आया
O Asad, in my youth I had picked up a stone to hit ‘Majnu!
when I remembered my own head!!
वस्ल में हिज्र का डर याद आया
ऐन जन्नत में सक़र याद आया
On the night of assignation, I was reminded of the dooms day!
Right in the heaven, I was reminded of hell!!
Begum Akhtar has sung this ghazal in her own style and imparted it her own personality. What a pleasure to hear her sing it!!!!!!!
This ghazal will appear on first of September which happens to be the birthday of my dear nephew Prasoon. Hope all of you enjoy the effort.
