Post 61: Ab Ke Hum Bichude Toh Shayad Kabhi Khwabon Mein Milae
Ahmed Faraz, whose given name was Syed Ahmed Shah, wrote under the pseudonym Ahmed Faraz. He was a Pakistani shayar ( born 1931 — died 2008) who is so well regarded that some call him modern day Ghalib! He was a postgraduate in Urdu and Farsi( Persian).
Following in the footsteps of Ali Safdar Jafri and Faiz Ahmed Faiz, he wrote some ghazals that did not go down well with the regime of President Zia Ul Haq and resulted in his incarnation in Pakistani jails.
His more popular ghazals include ‘ Rangish he sahi, dil he dukhane…….’; ‘ Suna he bole to Phool jhadtae hain……’ .
This is such a heart touching ghazal by Ahmad Faraz, presented here ,beautifully by Voice Over Artist Anurag Pandey.
Important words:
Mehdi Hasan is a name that defines ghazal singing for millions of people in the Indian subcontinent! His trade mark style brings alive the ghazal and one feels as though Mehdi Hasan himself is enjoying the ghazal and that adds such charm to the experience.
If we separate now, may be we would meet in dreams only?
Like some dried flowers pressed in a book!
Try and find pearls of faithfulness in devastated people!
May be you would find these treasures in people completely destroyed!!
Include the anguish of the world in the pain inflicted by the lover.
After all intoxication increases when wines are mixed in wines!
Neither are you the God nor do I love like the messengers of the God!
Both of are just humans ,so why meet with so much hesitation, diffidence?
Utterances for which I was insulted at your home;
What wonder if the World finds these as fundamentals, as basics tomorrow!
I am not what I was nor are you what you were; Neither is that past Faraz!
Like two people who meet in a mirage of aspirations, longings!!
Manjari ( born 17th April 1986, at Trivandrum Kerala) has appeared in my blogs several times. ,Her contribution in adding her own character and personality to the the ghazal singing can only be experienced by being in a comfortable position, able to close your eyes and let the music sweep over you! Despite a southern background her Urdu has no accent and is so pure. she has more than 500 Malayam, Tamil and Telgu films and albums to her credit, besides an exclusive ghazal show titled ‘ Khayal’ on Media One TV featuring popular ghazals.
Jagjit singh here is in his real romantic self!
Ghulam Ali has sung this ghazal with full passion and is an experience to listen to him.
Prithvi Gandharv (born 8th April 1990) , is a young artist who has performed in more than 800 concerts, including singing alongside Shreya Ghosal. His popularity soared after his song ‘Albela Sajan’ in superhit movie ‘Bajirao Mastani’. He is the composer and singer for the biopic on Anna Hazare called Anna. His father Shri Ashok Gandharv is a known violinist and his grandfather Shri Mohan Singh has been performing on harmonium for the film industry.
It was such a pleasure to research and determine that such greats have sung this ghazal although this ghazal has not been very popular.
Enjoy the ghazals and all the best for the coming winters. Let us hope there is no third wave and God is kind to us.
Take care.
