Some of his popular and interesting shers:

Important words:

रुसवाई: bad reputation, infamy, dishonour; शरीक़: involved, partner; सफ़रे शौक: Journey of love, liking; गरीबां: literally means collar of a kurta or shirt but also means inner self; अबरे करम: abr means cloud but here the meaning is cover of kindness; बज़्म: Gathering, meeting, mehfil; ज़ेहन: mind, thinking;

Sonu Nigam needs no introduction. He is such a popular Bollywood singer and stage personality.

Why do you look at yourself only, admire yourself only?

Please look at me once, after all you have nothing to loose!

You were an equal partner in giving me such infamya!

Why do you narrate all those episodes to my friends?

Even when you were so close to me,so intimate yet you could not know me, understand me!

What is the point in waving at me from a distance now?

In the journey of desire, why do your legs tremble?

If you keep an eye on me, why avoid looking at me?

Oh you! who has struggled all her life with your consciousness!

Do you think you can scare me with my own self,my own shadow?

People are dying of thirst (your absence), pick up the cloud of kindness and appear!

Once the gathering has broken why light the lamp?

Note:Traditionally a lamp (शमा) is placed before the person who would recite next.

Agreed that I mean nothing to you! still just tell me,

What transpires in your mind when you look at me?

You have the capacity to sweep away the entire World!

why do you raise a storm in the tea cup?

Shahzad, magic of your voice will not work on them!

Why try and wake those who are already awake

Dr Roshan Bharti has appeared in my blogs before. He earned Ph. D in music from Rajasthan University by submitting his doctoral thesis on the work of ‘ Mallika-e Ghazal’ Begum Akhtar. It was very thoroughly researched. He is related to legendary Mehdi Hasan and has developed a style that is influenced by Mehdi Hasan and still is distinct and his own. He is from a musical family. His grandfather was the renowned Ustad Jamal Khan Sahib of Senia Gharana.

Ghulam Ali sang this ghazal in his early years still his magic is evident.

Pratibha Singh Baghel ( Born 4th January 1991) has appeared in my blogs before. She continues to be as melodious as she is beautiful ! she was top finalist of the ‘ sa Re Ga ma Pa’ musical contest in 2009.She won the Mangeshkar Alankaran Award in 2008. Her debut song in Bollywood was ‘ Jheeni re Jheeni…..’ in film Issaq. She is quite active on the stage performances and appeared as lead actress in the play ‘ Umrao Jaan Ada- the musical’. She is an established playback singer in Bollywood.

Ranjeet Rajwada ( Now aged 28) hails from Rajasthan. He started his training in music at a very tender age of 4, under the guidance of his father Shri Mahesh Rajwada. His father moved to Mumbai in 2005 and Ranjeet had the good fortune of learning under legendary Kishori Amonkar. Getting a toehold in music industry was a very tough endeavour. He along with his father would go to private parties taking their own harmonium and sing even if no payment was made! He was selected by Forbes for their talent programme ‘ 30 under 30’, which brought the opportunities.

This ghazal has not been a very popular one and not many have heard it but I selected this for its beauty and realistic approach. Real stalwarts have sung it and made it worth listening. Enjoy the ghazal.

This November 27th is the birthday of my dear wife Ansa. To make it even more memorable, here is a song from my grand daughter Prashali. Happy birthday Ansa!!

Corona might be reappearing! Take care and follow the protocol!!

Have an enjoyable last month of the year.
