Tasleem Fazli (1947–17.08.1982) is the one who penned this sensitive and light hearted ghazal showing the gradual development of love. A real treat!

His given name was Izhar Anwar but he wrote under the name Tasleem Fazli. He was born in Delhi but the family migrated to Pakistan, in 1965. He died young at just 35. He was very active in Pakistani film industry. His elder brother Nida Fazli stayed back in India and became a very highly celebrated and decorated ghazal writer.

Gradually she became the essence of my existence, my personality, my self !

First she became my love, then my life and finally lover and reason for my life itself !!

Day by day increased attractiveness of that beautiful!

First she became a flower (Gul meaning a woman different from kali-girl) then a body resplendent with smell of flowers and finally like a garden blossoming with flowers( a beautiful woman in all her grace)!!

Gradually you came close and then even closer !

You became my love then my heart throb and finally became a guest in my heart- a permanently presence !!

When love grew limitless all impersonality was done away with, all formalities were forgotten!

Aap became tu and then tu became the standard salutation!

( Sorry there is no appropriate translation differentiating Aap and Tu but we lovers of shayari understand the difference)

Asha Bhosle, in her melodious and resonant voice does to this ghazal what only She can do! She successfully brings out the beauty, simplicity and the finer points of the ghazal. Her melodious voice brings out the nuances that showcases the very slight differences in meaning ,expression and sound.

Asha Bhosle ( Born 8th September 1933 — now 88) had married 31 years old Ganpatrao Bhosle, at the tender age of 16, in 1949. They separated in 1960.She later married R.D. Burman ( 1980–1994) but she retained her previous surname. She has sung more than 12000 songs ! In 2011 Guinness Book of world Records acknowledged her as the most recorded artist in the World!! She has sung in more than 20 languages besides Hindi.

The Government of India honoured her with Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2000 and honoured her with Padma Bhushan in 2008. She was honoured with Padma Vibhushan — second highest civilian award in India, in 2012. She has won 7 Filmfare awards for best female playback singer and 2 National Film awards.

Mehdi Hasan seems to be omnipresent! He appears again and again and again!! The beauty of his singing is that even you feel he is enjoying his own singing! Oh what a treat!!!

It appears, that he was found drinking in Pakistan and was awarded a penalty of 10 kodas but fortunately it was deferred.

Talat Aziz is a well established singer and more importantly a ghazal singer ( born 11.11.1956- now 65). He is from a family which used to organise musical get togethers where eminent singers like Jagjit Singh ,a family friend and others used to sing. Jagjit Singh launched Talat at the age of 23, in an album ‘ Jagjit Singh presents Talat Aziz’. His association with Jagjit Singh encouraged him to train under Kirana Gharana. Some of his popular songs include the famous song ‘zindagi jub bhe teri bazm mein late hai mujhe, from film Umrao Jan; ‘ phir chhidi bat…’ from film Bazar , in duet with Lata Mangeshkar, another duet with Asha Bhosle- tum hee se roshan…’ and many more.

Manjari a really versatile singer, has over 200 Tamil and Malayalam films and several albums to her credit. She was born in Thiruvananthapuram but grew up in Muscat. Enjoy her clear diction. It is pure Urdu! she has appeared in several of my blogs.

Jodha Akbar film used this ghazal in a very effective and endearing manner. Understated acting by Aishwarya Rai and Riztik Roshan has added beauty to this sensitive ghazal.

Humera Channa ( Born 22nd June 1970) is a popular Pakistani singer, who has sung more than 1200 songs. Here she sings this ghazal from the perspective of a female.

Chetan Gadhavi is a singer born and brought up in Rajkot , Gujrat. He comes from a family of artists. His father is an accomplished painter and his brother is a tabla player. Government of Maharashtra had selected him as a member of the Gujrati Sahitya Academy.

Bharathi Viswanathan Tiwari is a classical singer. She was trained in classical vocal and ghazal singing by Ustad Latif Khan, a Padma Shree awardee. She is an A grade artist of the All India Radio and Doordarshan.

This ghazal is so popular that more than 20 established singers have sung it. I am presenting a selection so that you are able to enjoy different voices and styles. Hope you enjoy my effort.

Take care. Omicron is spreading!

Happy Happy New Year. May it bring you happiness, good health, prosperity, merriment, cheer, fun, frolic, laughter and all things that your heart desires! May God continue to be kind. Stay blessed.
