कू-ब-कू फैल गई बात शनासाई की
Parveen Shakir is one of the few ladies who had ventured in the intricacies of ghazal writing. She advanced the perspective of a lady , her feelings, sentiments and perceptions. Her shayari has a softness, fragility and sentimentality about it.
This is a sensitive ghazal depicting the mental frame of a very young girl, who has started a love affair but is concerned about her reputation! This young girl appears to have experienced all the pleasures as well as the traumas of a passionate love affair.

उस ने ख़ुशबू की तरह मेरी पज़ीराई की
From neighbourhood to neighbourhood, the news of my consent to his love has spread!
He accepted my consent wholeheartedly and enveloped me in his love like a cloud of fragrance does !!
कैसे कह दूँ कि मुझे छोड़ दिया है उस ने ?
बात तो सच है मगर बात है रुस्वाई की !
How can I confess that he has abandoned me, ditched me?
Yes, it is true but then it is so humiliating, would bring such infamy!
वो कहीं भी गया लौटा तो मिरे पास आया
बस यही बात है अच्छी मिरे हरजाई की
Wherever and whenever he went, strayed, had a fling with others!
still when he came back, he came back to me only!
This is the only nice thing about my unfaithful one!!
तेरा पहलू तिरे दिल की तरह आबाद रहे
तुझ पे गुज़रे न क़यामत शब-ए-तन्हाई की
O my lover, there should always be someone by your side, you should always have a beloved, your heart should always be well populated!
Do not ever bear the hardship and misfortune of spending a single lonely night !!
उस ने जलती हुई पेशानी पे जब हाथ रखा
रूह तक आ गई तासीर मसीहाई की
When he placed his hand on my burning forehead!
Even my inner self felt the alchemy of his healing touch, as though of that messenger of God!!
अब भी बरसात की रातों में बदन टूटता है
जाग उठती हैं अजब ख़्वाहिशें अंगड़ाई की
Even now during the moist nights of rainy season, my body aches,feels feverish, out of sorts and lonely !
Strange feelings of desire rise in me, when I stretch my arms in longing!!
Abida Parveen ( born 20th February 1954) is a phenomenon! She has made a place in Sufi singing that no one can reach. She is dubbed as the ‘Queen of Sufi music’ and is the highest paid singer in Pakistan. Besides a singer she is an accomplished painter. Her father ,who trained her,Usad Ghulam Haider was himself a renowned singer and teacher of music. She has been designated as ‘Peace Ambassador’ by SAARC. She was crowned with Pakistan’s highest civilian award ‘Hilal-e-Imtiaz’ in 2021.
Mehdi Hasan Khan ( born 18.07.1927- death 13.06.2012) has graced my blogs on a very regular basis. Such is his mastery, a long list of ghazals, voice full of magic and subjects all encompassing! In this ghazal he has imparted a particular flavour to a simple ghazal that depicts the delicate situation of a young girl, who has to be careful about her reputation and still has strong feelings for her lover! Only a maestro like Mehdi Hasan could have brought out the beauty of these feelings and essence of this ghazal.

Ghulam Abbas (born 01.01.1955) is a Pakistani singer. He obtained masters in Philosophy and Urdu literature. Mehdi Hasan noticed his talent at an early age and introduced him to his mentor Ustaad Ismail Khan. He has been very active in Pakistani film world since 1975. He was awarded the Presidents medal ‘ Tamga -e- Imtiaz’ ( Medal of excellence), in 2011.
Sara Raza Khan ( born 09.11.1995) is a Pakistani ghazal singer who ventured in Bollywood in 2014, singing for Indian films like the song ‘ dheerae dheeare’ and ‘ mere dholna’, Teri meri meri teri prem kahani’ etc.
