POST 73: Ishq mein garat- e-jazbat nein rone na diya
इश्क़ में ग़ैरत-ए-जज़्बात ने रोने न दिया
This is a gazal written by well known poet Sudarshan Fakir, who appears to have been a favourite of Mallika -e-Gazal, Begum Akhtar! She sang five of his gazals during her last days. This gazal demonstrates the absolute helplessness of the lover and sensitively depicts his plight. When you read the lyrics, the feeling is that this gazal was written and meant to be sung by Begum Akhtar.

While in love self esteem, dignity of emotions prevented me from weeping!
Otherwise what was the there to prevent me from weeping?
आप कहते थे के रोने से न बदलेंगे नसीब
उम्र भर आपकी इस बात ने रोने न दिया
It was your contention that weeping will not alter the fortunes!
All my life this assertion of yours prevented me from weeping!!
उनसे मिलकर हमें रोना था बहुत रोना था
तंगी-ए-वक़्त-ए-मुलाक़ात ने रोने न दिया
On meeting I was to weep and weep copiously and uncontrollably!
However short time of assignation, prevented me from weeping!!
रोने वालों से कहो उनका भी रोना रो लें
जिनको मजबूरी-ए-हालात ने रोने न दिया
Oh you the people who do weep, please weep for those also !
Who unfortunately could not weep owing to helplessness of circumstances!!
एक दो रोज़ का सदमा हो तो रो लें, 'फाकीर'
हम को हर रोज़ के सदमत ने रोने ना दिया
Oh ‘Fakir’ if it is a mental shock for a day or two one can weep!
This continuous and daily condition of trauma prevented me from weeping even !!

Ragini Rainu is a young sufi singer who is the disciple of santoor maestro and music composer Pandit Bhajan Sopori. Under him Ragini trained in semi-classical and light music including, thumri, kajri, tappa and gazal . She did masters in music.
Minu Bakshi, besides being a proficent singer of Hindustani classical music, is a professor of Spanish language at JLN University. She is equally adept in singing in Punjabi. She is an admirerr of Mallika -e-Gazal, Begum Akhtar.
Shubha Chaki,a young singer has been learning classical music since the age of four! She was awarded junior and senior National Talent Search Scholarship in music, by Government of India. She is US based and has featured in a gazal titled Bewafaa, released by legendary singer Hariharan.
And finally an offering by Coke Studio wherein the same gazal has been presented with a modern orchestra led by Sajjad Ali.
