POST 79: Bemuravat bewafa begana-e-dil aap hai
बेमुरव्वत बेवफ़ा बेगाना-ए-दिल आप हैं
This is a gazal written by Jan Nisar Akhtar, father of Javed Akhtar and grandfather of Farhan Akhtar. There is documentary proof to suggest that seven generations of Farhan Akhtar have been gazal writers of repute.
This gazal like most gazals in films, is in very simple Urdu and appeals to the heart. This gazal made Mubarak Begum a well known name in the continent. It has only five stanzas which is the minimum numbers of stanzas in poetry to qualify as gazal.
According to definition, a gazal is poetry in Urdu or Persian, which generally has between 5 and 11 stanzas, called shers, that have the same Radif रदीफ and kafia क़ाफिया या क़ाफिआ although the thought in each sher could be different. The first sher is called Matla मतला (आधा त) and the last sher is called Makta मक़ता , in which the shayar generally introduces his name. A collection of gazals is called a Diwan.

अच्छे बुरे का हाल क्या खुले नक़ाब में
Here में is रदीफ and नक़ाब is क़ाफिआ
Important words: दर्दे दिल : pain of the heart;दर्दे वफ़ा: pain of being faithful,दर्दे तमन्ना: pain of desire, wishing; तकाजा: demand; बेमुरव्वत :lacking humanity;बेवफ़ा: Unfaithful;बेगाना-ए-दिल: a stranger at heart; कातिल: kiler, assain and an epithet used for a beloved both male and female; साहिल: Shore or bank.

what are the demands of being in love?
बेमुरव्वत बेवफ़ा बेगाना-ए-दिल आप हैं
आप मानें या न मानें मेरे कातिल आप हैं
Lacking humanity, unconcerned, unfaithful and like a stranger are you!
Whether you agree or not you are my assassin!
आप से शिकवा है मुझ को ग़ैर से शिकवा नहीं
जानती हूँ दिल में रख लेने के क़ाबिल आप हैं
I have a complaint against you, and not against any stranger or rival!
Although I know you are fit to be cherished in my heart!!
साँस लेती हूँ तो यूँ महसूस होता है मुझे
जैसे मेरे दिल की हर धड़कन में शामिल आप हैं
Every breath I take, I feel as though you are here,
As though you are part of every heartbeat!!
ग़म नहीं जो लाख तूफ़ानों से टकराना पड़े
मैं वो कश्ती हूँ कि जिस कश्ती का साहिल आप हैं
I have no regrets, pain or sorrow even if I have to fight a hundred thousand tempests!
I know I am that punt, that boat for which you are the shore, bank, salvation!!
Mubarak Begum ( Born 05.01.1936- died 18.07.2016) was an Indian singer who specialised in gazal singing although she was proficient in Naat singing also. She started singing in films in 1949 and sang about 170 songs but unfortunately was not able to capitalize on her talent probably because she did not have the ‘ Net working’ capabilities! Her last days were spent in near poverty.

Jayanti Nadiq is an Indian singer. I like her tonal qualities and have included her singing, although I have not been able to gather any biographical details.
Minu Bakshi ( Born 08.07.1955 at Delhi)generally sings in Punjabi, her mother tongue but has been singing gazals since an early age. She was taught classical Hindustani singing by Ustad Gulam Hussain Khan of Rampur gharana. She studied Urdu to enjoy and appreciate the finer points of the gazals and to attain true Urdu pronunciation.

I would like to remind you of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters especially as no one knew when will India get independence! A whole hearted salute to those millions of men, women and even children!!
8th August was the birthday of my nephew Peush. A very happy birthday Peush. 27th August is the birthday of my grandson Akshit, son of Pallavi and Ashish. 31st August is also the birthday of our eldest cousin Usha Jiji. Happy birthday Akshit and Usha jiji!
