POST 8 Huee Shaam Unka Khayal Aa Gayaa
This is a soulful ghazal filmed with lot of care and sensitivity.
My dear friend Rajeev Gupta has requested for translation of this ghazal, from a film. The beauty of ghazals from films is that generally the words used are very simple and understood by most, still there can be a few words which have a bearing on the meaning of the sher. Even a single word, if not understood can mar the enjoyment of the sher.
This is a ghazal written by Dada Sahib Phalke Award winner Shayar Majrooh Sultanpuri and sung by legendary singer Mohammed Rafi for the film “Mere Humdum Mere Dost” released in 1962. It was set to music by Kalyanji Anandji.
The song was filmed on Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore.
Important words:
तबस्सुम Smile;शादमां happy;रगें मलाल shadow of unhappiness, repentance;
Apocalypse
The evening falls and her thoughts begin to crowd me
This question regarding why of life, poses itself ,
I had an array of smiles on my lips,
I was very happy having forgotten her
Suddenly what has happened that
I have a shadow of unhappiness on my face.
I was smug in the belief that
Grief of loosing my beloved was far from my heart!
That grief that I had expelled from my heart
by so much effort ,
has come back in the guise of apocalypse
The evening falls and I begin to think of her.
Have a great weekend!
