तुम अपना रंज-ओ-ग़म अपनी परेशानी मुझे दे दो
Sahir Ludhianvi ( Born 08.03.1921- died 25.10.1980 ) , whose real name was Abdul Hai Fazi Mohammad, published his first collection ‘ Talkhiyan’ meaning bitterness, in 1944 at the age of 23! It was immediately sold out!!
This is a gazal* penned by Sahir Ludhianvi , a very popular song writer of the Bollywood film industry, who was very active in Hindi film industry between 1940 and 1980.He had numerous hit songs to his credit. He never married although he was in a relationship with Amrita Pritam, a married lady. He also had a relationship with singer Sudha Malhotra.
He was awarded ‘Padma Shri’ in 1971. A commemorative stamp was issued on 8th March 2013, in his honour. He won Filmfare best lyricist award for film Taj Mahal in 1964 and again in 1977 for film Kabhi Kabhi.

This gazal was used in the film ‘Shagoon’ featuring Waheeda Rehman and Kamaljeet in the lead roles. It was released in 1964. The music was directed by Khayyam. This song was sung was Jagjit Kaur.
Jagjit Kaur ( Born 1930- died 15.08.2021) from a Punjabi zamindar family, married music director M.Z. Khayyam in 1954. She debuted in Bollywood with the song ‘ Dil -e-nadan’ in 1953. Her song ‘Chale aao saiyan ranglae mein wari….’ and ‘ Dekh lo aaj hum togee bhar ke…’ both from film Bazar (1982) became big hits.
Radhika Chopra when she sings ,has a unique style which is free from all influences and makes each gazal her own. Recently, Ansa and I had the opportunity to hear her live at Delhi Gymkhana. It was an unadulterated pleasure! Incidentally, she looks as charming and beautiful as she appears in her photographs!!
Kalpana Gandharv belongs to the fourth generation in a family of musicians. She has an album ‘Teri Talab’ which has become very popular.

बुरा क्या है अगर ये दुख ये हैरानी मुझे दे दो
I agree I am worthless in your estimation!
Still there is no harm in transferring to me this pain and perplexity!!
मैं देखूँ तो सही दुनिया तुम्हें कैसे सताती है
कोई दिन के लिए अपनी निगहबानी मुझे दे दो
Let me see how this World can or would torment you?
For some days give me your safe-guarding!
वो दिल जो मैं ने माँगा था मगर ग़ैरों ने पाया है
बड़ी शय है अगर उस की पशेमानी मुझे दे दो
The heart that I had sought but others (competitors) found!

This has been a very eventful second half of November. It had marriage anniversaries of my younger brother Pramod and Rashmi on 17th and on 19th was the anniversary of my nephew Ritesh and Nupur, while 23rd was the anniversary of my brother -in-law Sanjeev and Anuradha. Also my niece Poonam and her husband Ashish celebrated their anniversary on the 20th. Happy anniversary Pramod and Rashmi; Ritesh and Nupur;Sanjeev and Anuradha and Poonam and Ashish!
27th was 75th birthday of my wife Ansa. Happy birthday Ansa.
28th was the birthday of our granddaughter Priyanshi, daughter of Prerna and Yogesh. Happy birthday Priyanshi!
