Koi arzu nahi koi mudda nahi hai
कोई आरज़ू नहीं है कोई मुद्दआ’ नहीं है
Shakeel Badayuni ( Born 03.08.1916- Died 20.04.1970 sadly rather young!), as the name indicates was born in a small town Badayun , in Uttar Pradesh. He was awarded Filmfare best lyrist award for lyricsof songs in film ‘Chaudhvin ka chand ho ya aftab ho….’ in 1961,film ‘ Gharana’ for the song ‘Husnwale tera jawab nahi’ in 1962 as also in 1963 for the song ‘Kahin deep jale kahi dil….’

Begum Akhtar is a star performer in my blogs and here she is enthralling us with her mastery of gazal singing!
Talat Mahmood ( born 24.02.1924- Died 09.05.1998) the handsome singer with a velvet soft voice was a great performer during 1939 and 1971. He learnt classical music under Guru S.C.R. Bhatt at Marris College of Music now renamed Bhatkhande Music Institute, in late 30s. Probably his most famous song is ‘ Tasver teri dil mera bahalaa na sake ge…….’ sung in 1944. He was known for his silken and quivering voice, which greatly suited gazal singing. He tried his hand at acting in films but that career did not take off.
He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1992.

Bharti Vishwanathan has appeared in my blogs before. She was trained in Indian classical singing by Padmshri Ustad Abdul Laif Khan. Her clear pronunciation in Urdu is a pleasure to listen. She is an A grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan.
Sudeep Banerji (born 1st January 1970) is a well known gazal singer, who trained in Dadra, Thumri and Gazal singing under Pundit Shanti Hiranand. he did his schooling and college education at Delhi although he belonged to a distinguished family from Allahabad. He was a child prodigy! He was winner of 2022 IIMA award for best gazal album NOOR.
Manhar Udhas (Born 13.05.1943) a brother of Pankaj Udhas, is basically a Hindi and Gujrati language singer. His career took off when he was asked to dub a song for Mukesh, in 1969, for film Vishwas, as Mukesh was not immediately available. Once Mukesh heard that recording, he declared that there was no need to record afresh as Manhar had sung it well. The song was ‘ Aap se hum ko bichade huye ek zamana beet gaya…’ and it became a hit!
This again is a very busy fortnight. 8th was the birthday of Sumit Mehrotra husband of my neice Padmja. Happy birthday Sumit! Also 15th is the birthday of Mrs Poonam Mathur mother of my daughter-in — law Dipali. Happy birthday Poonam!
11th was the anniversary of my elder brother Major General( Retired) Dr Pratap Dayal and Deepa Dayal. Happy anniversary Pratap B and Deepa B! 12th was very involved with anniversaries of my sisters -in-law Aparna and Rakesh, Komal and Vini as also of Preeti and Sudhir!!! Happy anniversary Aparna — Rakesh; Komal- Vini and Preeti- Sudhir!
