Important words :
नुकताचीं one given to finding faults ; ग़म-ए-दिल pain of the heart; जज़्बा-ए-दिल passion of the heart; आतिश Fire
My heart which is full of pain, is a great fault finder,
I am not even able to convey to it, make it understand , what is in my heart
how can things be set right
as I am not able to relate to it.
My rival is roaming around, with your letter, showing off so openly, so blatantly ,
that if someone asks what is it, it would not be possible to conceal it.
I do call her with all the passion in my heart,
Oh God, let something happen so that ,
she may not be able to resist coming,
she may be compelled to come .
Ghalib,love can not be dictated,
Love is like fire,
It can not be kindled at your will
nor can it , be put off ,denied at your will.
I have been loaded with responsibility,
the responsibility has fallen from my head,
that I am not able to handle it,
the job is such that I am unable to complete it.
My beloved thinks it is a game,
she may not leave me , forget me,
May it so happen,
that she may not be happy, without my tormenting her.
The same ghazal had also been sung by Kundan Lal Saigal, in the film ‘Yahudi Ki Ladki’ in 1933. Music was directed by Pankaj Mullick. It was a debut film, as a music director, for Pankaj Mullick. K.L. Saigal was also the hero in this film. This was the first time that voice of K. L. Saigal was heard in a film and took the nation by storm.
Feel the effect created by Saigal, words remaining the same!
Enjoy the eternal Ghalib, evergreen Saigal and indomitable Suraiya.
Happy weekend.
