Dost ban ban ke Milae mujh ko mitanae walae
Saeed Rahi is an Indian poet who has written this gazal which has a message and style of its own. He has been very active in the Indian film industry. I have not been able to research and find out biographical details about him.
Important words:
सितम: torture, tyranny, oppresion; इख़लाक; अख़लाक़: etiquette, courtesies, consideration; सलाम-ए-दिल-ए-मुज़्तर: salutation from the restless helpless heart; शब-ए-हिज्र: night of separation,
Those who wanted to destroy me , posed as my friends!
I have known so many who are just opportunists, turncoats !!
You have caused so much misery and torture by just remaining silent!
Even those who laugh at my misery are more considerate than you !!
I always sell myself short because of etiquette, courtesies, considerations!
There are others, who are prepared to sell themselves on your terms!!
Oh please accept my last salutation from this restless heart!
No one would return now onwards to weep over the nights of separation!!
Jagjit Singh and his golden velvety voice! Just enjoy the magic of his voice.
Papon ( born 24.11.1975) is an Assamese singer who has made a place for himself in the Indian cinema. Papon is his stage name although his given name is Angaraag Mahanta. He has founded the folk -fusion band ‘ Papon and the East India Company’ and is its lead vocalist.
He had a controversial tenure as a judge of the ‘little masters’ a music competition for young singers when he was removed from judgeship for having kissed ,on lips, a young 14 years old girl competitor! Also his career took a nose dive!!
The same gazal has been sung by Mr. U.M. Sahay, a very close friend of mine , who belonged to the Indian Forest Service and retired as the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest from Rajasthan. He is passionate about she-o-shayari and has appeared on Doordarshan and other channels. He has written more than 130 poems , gazals etc and posted these on p4poetry.com website. He is a great admirer of Jagjit Singh, which is apparent in his singing style also.
Please enjoy this meaningful gazal which may appear to be close to your own reality!
